Xiaomi sold 5 million units of Redmi Note 4 by the end of July and it went on to become one of the best selling mobile phone under 10000 in 2017. It looks like they are going to repeat their success story again in 2018 with Redmi Note 5.

Before Xiaomi could officially launch the new Redmi Note 5, the phone was making the rounds on the internet from the beginning of July. The entire specs and design of the phone were leaked online and the rumor mills were abuzz. This may be a marketing strategy from the Chinese mobile giant to make the customers more curious and excited about the imminent release.

Afterall there is no word on the launch date about the phone from Xiaomi but it is expected to be launched in the last quarter of 2017. The leaks hint that Redmi Note 5 will come with a 5.5 inch full HD display and will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 octa-core processor whereas the Redmi Note 4 was running on Snapdragon 625 chipset. Just like the Redmi Note 4, it will have three variants of storage options 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM, 4GB RAM + 32GB ROM, and 4GB RAM + 64GB.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is going to run on Android 7.1. Nougat-based MIUI 9.0 operating system. An Oreo update is not expected out of the box and probably be updated through an over the air update later. The battery is expected to be 4000 mAh with a quick charging support and the hybrid SIM slot will be retaining its place.

The upcoming Redmi Note 5 is also rumored to come with an upgraded camera than the Redmi Note 4. Xiaomi has got a lot of flak in the past for their poor camera quality. We hope that they will address those issues in their new model. There are unconfirmed reports emerging that the phone could sport a dual 16MP rear snapper and a 5MP selfie-shooter.

The Redmi Note 5 is expected to be priced around ₹10999 for the 3GB base variant, ₹12999 for the 4GB+32GB variant and ₹13999 for the 4GB+64GB variant. The high-end variant of Note 5 will be competing directly with Moto G5S Plus and Xiaomi’s own Mi A1 for the title of the best mobile phone under 15000. This phone has all the making to send shock waves across the Indian budget phone market again after Xiaomi Redmi Note 4.

Unfortunately, we don’t know the official release date of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 as yet. But whenever it does, we hope that it will be a killer phone in the budget segment, and can carry forward the legacy of its predecessors. Stay tuned for more updates.
